For two and a half centuries, our nation has been guided by the enduring ideals of freedom, democracy, service, and opportunity. As we reflect on our country’s rich history, we are grateful for the sacrifices of those who helped build and defend our nation and for the strong sense of community that continues to make San Rafael a wonderful place to live, work, and visit. The members of the San Rafael Police Department sincerely appreciate the ongoing support, trust, and partnership of our community. We are honored to serve alongside you and wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July holiday. As you celebrate, please remember these important safety tips: 🎆 Fireworks are illegal in San Rafael and throughout Marin County. Leave fireworks displays to trained professionals and attend the Marin County Fair public fireworks show instead. 🚗 Never drive under the influence of any impairing substance. Plan ahead for a safe ride home by using a designated driver, rideshare service, taxi, or public transportation. 🍔 If hosting a barbecue, keep grills away from structures, dry vegetation, and combustible materials. 🏊 Supervise children around pools, waterways, and outdoor activities. 🚔 If you see illegal fireworks or suspicious activity, report it to the San Rafael Police Department. SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE: San Rafa SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE: San Rafael, CA – Diego Alejandro Diaz Flores, an 18-year-old resident, was arrested this morning by the Marin Regional Crisis Response Unit for attempted homicide related to a shooting incident on June 26. Officers found a 28-year-old male with gunshot wounds, who is currently stable at a local hospital. The investigation revealed a distinct multi-colored handgun used in the shooting, leading to the arrest of a juvenile linked to Diaz Flores. Surveillance footage and community cooperation helped confirm Diaz Flores as the shooter. He has been booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, in violation of Penal Code section 664/187 PC. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the San Rafael Police Department at (415) 485-3000 or submit tips online anonymously. #SanRafaelPolice #SanRafaelPD #SRPD #PressRelease #News
FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL IN MARIN: The San Rafael P FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL IN MARIN: The San Rafael Police and Fire Department wants to remind you that ALL FIREWORKS, including safe-and-sane ones, are ILLEGAL throughout Marin County. The only approved fireworks are those that will be on display at the Marin County Fair, which runs from Wednesday, July 3, through Sunday, July 7th. The fireworks display over the lagoon across from the Civic Center will be held each night beginning at 9:30 p.m. Police will be on the lookout for the illegal use of fireworks and will issue citations. Every year, serious injuries and wildfires are sparked by fireworks. Unfortunately, already this year, San Rafael has seen injuries and fires start as a result of illegal fireworks. They may look fun to try at home or in your neighborhood, but they are unsafe and illegal in Marin. Additionally, those using fireworks that cause fires could be held criminally and financially responsible for firefighting costs and property damage. SRPD’S TOUCH-A-TRUCK IS HAPPENING - SATURDAY, JULY SRPD’S TOUCH-A-TRUCK IS HAPPENING - SATURDAY, JULY 25,2026: SRPD is hosting its annual Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at San Rafael High School’s Third Street parking lot, located at 150 Third Street in San Rafael. This is a great event for the whole family. Kids of all ages will have the chance to see, touch, and explore a police car, a police motorcycle, a fire truck, an ambulance, a tractor, a dump truck, a tow truck, a garbage truck, and much more. This year will be the biggest Touch-A-Truck with more spectacular trucks and vehicles, even a United States Coast Guard helicopter, along with a variety of food and ice cream trucks for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you there! OFFICERS FIND AND ARREST ARMED STOLEN CAR SUSPECT: OFFICERS FIND AND ARREST ARMED STOLEN CAR SUSPECT: On 06/29/2026, at 1:30 PM, SRPD Officers were alerted that an automated license plate reader had detected a stolen vehicle taken from the Sacramento area. The alert also stated that the suspect was armed and dangerous. Nearby officers quickly located the vehicle on Belvedere Street and stopped it. When officers had the suspect step out from the driver’s side of the vehicle, they observed a handgun in his front waistband. Officers used clear commands and de-escalation techniques to ensure the suspect understood their directions and what they wanted him to do, thereby avoiding an unwanted confrontation. While this was occurring, SRPD’s Drone as First Responder “Air 1” was overhead providing scene overwatch and relaying real-time information about additional occupants in the vehicle and where the gun was specifically located. The suspect and the additional occupant of the vehicle were taken into custody without incident. The handgun that was removed from the suspect was determined to be loaded at the time. The handgun was also found to be unregistered. The suspect was booked into the Marin County Jail on felony charges of possession of a concealed and loaded handgun, carrying a concealed and loaded handgun in a vehicle, carrying an unregistered handgun, and possession of a stolen vehicle. The additional occupant of the vehicle was questioned and released, as it appeared they were not aware the vehicle had been stolen. This is a great example of modern technology assisting law enforcement officers in locating dangerous and wanted suspects while also providing real-time information to enhance safety measures during high-risk, armed incidents. #SanRafaelPolice #SanRafaelPD #SRPD #DroneAsFirstResponder #Arrest
